China has donated “reagent” – a critical component in Covid-19 testing – to Cambodia, the Chinese Embassy said on Tuesday.

According to a post on the embassy’s Facebook page, Cambodia has received a shipment of reagent from China which is enough to test 2,000 people.

“China has donated reagent to detect the novel coronavirus. The shipment, which includes enough reagent for 2,000 people, arrived in Phnom Penh via aeroplane on Tuesday. It was given to the Cambodian Ministry of Health,” the post said.

The Chinese embassy said China will also donate protective suits, surgical face masks and other medical equipment.

Political analyst Em Sovannara said the Chinese aid will help the Kingdom combat the spread of the novel coronavirus.

“This shows the good relations between China and Cambodia. It shows the international community that China and Cambodia are good friends that help each other.

“I think this donation by China can really make a difference,” he said, pointing out that the US has also donated $2 million to aid Cambodia’s fight against the novel coronavirus.
