Senior Minister and first vice-president of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) Ly Thuch offered his congratulations to King Charles III of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland on his recent coronation.

In a May 10 statement, issued on behalf of the Cambodian government, he noted that UK is a stable partner and the Kingdom is grateful for its assistance in many fields over the years.

“On behalf of the government and people of Cambodia, I sincerely wish King Charles III a happy and prosperous reign,” he said.

Thuch added that the special day did not only celebrate the coronation, but also marked a lasting partnership between Cambodia and the UK.

“Cambodia is grateful for the support of the UK, and looks forward to working closely with it for years to come,” he continued.

He said the British embassy in Cambodia has helped to facilitate valuable dialogue between the authorities of both kingdoms in fields as diverse as trade, foreign affairs, the environment and defence.

“We would also like to thank the UK for its valuable support and assistance to Cambodia development in many areas, include education, demining, trade, health, and the environment. In particular, we are grateful for its facilitation of the return of 77 pieces of Cambodian heritage jewellery in February this year,” he added.

On May 6, the first coronation ceremony to be staged in the United Kingdom for seven decades took place. The spectacular event is a tradition that is more than thousand years old.

King Charles III became monarch at the age of 73. As the eldest son, he ascended to the throne following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022 at the age of 96.
