Prime Minister Hun Sen congratulated Ismail Sabri Yaakob for his appointment as the 9th prime minister of Malaysia.

“The trust and confidence in Your Excellency to lead your nation is indeed enormous, as Malaysia, like the rest of the world, strives to control the resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic and address its grave impact on people's life and economy,” Hun Sen said in his letter dated August 20.

“I firmly believe that, under Your Excellency's leadership, Malaysia will emerge stronger from the current difficulties and challenges to achieve steady high growth and further socio-economic progress in every dimension.”

The appointment of the former deputy prime minister followed the resignation of Muhyiddin Yassin on Monday.

Hun Sen said Cambodia and Malaysia have enjoyed long-lasting relations and fruitful cooperation in various fields.

"Our trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people exchanges have seen substantial increase and are still growing. I look forward to working closely with Your Excellency to further strengthen and expand these excellent ties and cooperation for the mutual benefits of our peoples and for peace, stability and security, as well as for building a resilient ASEAN community,” he said.
