Prime Minister Hun Sen will be present at Phnom Penh International Airport tonight to personally receive one million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine donated by Japan for the fight against Covid-19.

In an announcement on July 13, Japanese ambassador to Cambodia Masahiro Mikami said the vaccines are provided through the World Health Organisation-led Covax Facility.

Mikami said the assistance demonstrated strong ties between the two countries and in timely response to the current Covid-19 situation.

As of July 22, Cambodia had vaccinated more than 6.4 million people, or 64.55 per cent of the targeted adult population of 10 million, in a nationwide campaign now scheduled to be completed in late October or early November this year.

The prime minister has also announced plans to vaccinate children aged 12-17, starting with the capital and Kandal province before expanding nationwide.
