Fourteen homemade guns were handed in to Bakeo district police on Wednesday by Jarai minority villagers from Ratanakkiri province’s Kak commune.

Bakeo district chief of police Chuob Vannarak told The Post that the weapons were homemade rifles.

The villagers reportedly surrendered them after authorities educated them on the Village-Commune Safety Policy.

“The villagers gave the homemade guns to authorities because they understood the Village-Commune Safety Policy. We told them that even though they were homemade, they can still kill people. If someone used such a weapon and killed someone, they could go to prison,”

Chuob Vannarak said. He said the rifles were used for hunting and everyday object such as wheel ballbearings were used as bullets.
