Kep province has concluded its first round of Covid-19 vaccination campaign after inoculating more than 26,000 people, or 96 per cent of its adult population, with the second doses.

Speaking during a closing ceremony on September 10, provincial governor Som Pisith said 26,920 adults have received their second shots.

He said authorities had deployed five groups of medical workers in the province's five communes and town.

Pisith noted that the province has also administered the first doses to 4,783 children, or 74 per cent, of the 12-17 age group, and is continuing to provide the second jabs on a daily basis.

He said 1,904 out of 2,219 frontline workers including medical and military personnel and civil servants, equivalent to 86 per cent, had received their third dose, or booster shot.

Ministry of Health spokeswoman Or Vandine, who is also head of the national Covid-19 vaccination commission, said achieving herd immunity is among the government's key strategies in reopening all sectors of the economy.
