Residents of Tuol Sangke I commune in Russey Keo district have received their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine starting May 7, according to Ith Sarath – Deputy Commander-in-Chief and Joint Chief of Staff of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces – who oversees the campaign in Phnom Penh.

“I will deploy more military forces from Region 3 to help accelerate the drive because we have to speed up this work for the more than 70,000 residents,” he said.

Sarath said that all people aged 18 and over will receive the jabs and that the military would remain there until all people in the area are armed with the vaccine.

“This campaign is for everyone, no matter if they are homeless,” he said.

Sarath said the campaign – to be administered by Brigade 70 – will reach Tuol Kork district's red zones, including Boeung Kak I and Boeung Salang commune, on May 8.

As of May 6, Cambodia had vaccinated 1,606,007 people across the country.
