Ministry of Health spokeswoman Or Vandine has appealed to all Cambodians to take care of their health and participate in the reduction of the risk of diabetes by staying aware of their food consumption in terms of amount and nutritional quality.

The appeal came on World Diabetes Day on November 14, observed this year with the theme: “Education to protect tomorrow”.

The theme is a reflection of efforts to foster greater education about diabetes that pushes for changes to people’s attitudes and living habits, especially healthy food consumption.

“Please pay close attention to your health and participate in the reduction of the risk of diabetes based on important and easy points for daily living practices we all have to adopt,” Vandine said.

She added that they must not eat too much salty or fatty foods and must exercise regularly.

World Diabetes Day was established in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) with the support of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in response to an increasing concern about the health and economic threats caused by diabetes. The day was formally recognised by the UN in 2006.
