Kong Vibol, director-general of the General Department of Taxation (GDT), reminded vehicle owners to pay any taxes that are owed to avoid fines.

He issued the warning during a November 15 meeting to review the results of tax collection the first 10 months of the year, and to plan the GDT’s future direction.

“The deadline for payment of taxes on all means of transportation and vehicles for 2022 will expire on November 30,” he said.

Vibol suggested that vehicle owners use the mobile “GDT Taxpayer App”, which enables the public to pay taxes online, quickly and easily.

He said that following the 51st annual meeting of the Study Group on Asia-Pacific Tax Administration and Research (SGATAR) – as well as bilateral meetings with its Singaporean, Korean and Malaysian counterparts on October 17-21 – the GDT will continue reviewing the mechanism for the collection of tax revenue from the gambling and casino sectors.

In the first 10 months of the year, the GDT collected $2,945,950 through its online revenue management system, an increase of $624.31 million over the same period in 2021.

Regarding transportation taxes, it said payment can be made at all tax branches across the country, or at several major banking institutions such as Canadia, ACLEDA and ABA and any others that have signed an agreement with the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

From January 1, 2023 onwards, the GDT will work closely with the police to inspect tax declarations on vehicles. Fines will be imposed on those who have not met their obligations.
