Heng Nareth, undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Environment and secretary-general of the municipal solid waste management committee, led a meeting at the ministry headquarters to evaluate presentations given by 20 town and district administrations requesting garbage trucks.

The ministry said on January 13 that the 20 town and district administrations had demonstrated commitment to self-management, maintenance and efficient use of resources to improve the provision of services for collecting, cleaning and transporting urban solid waste within their purview.

It commended the administrations for having clear action plans to expand and strengthen garbage collection services to beautify the environment in line with the "safe village-commune" policy.

Vinel Yeth, undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, said he appreciated the efforts of the ministries of environment and interior, and all capital-provincial environment departments to strengthen the efficiency of urban solid waste collection services

He requested that they monitor and evaluate the provision of waste services and encourage the public to make use of the garbage services and increase the number of paying subscribers to the garbage services.

Also in attendance at the meeting were representatives from the interior ministry, the municipal solid waste management committee, and the departments of environmental protection, finance and accounting, state property management, and solid waste management.
