The Ministry of Health on Saturday confirmed another case of Covid-19.

The woman, a 39-year-old from Teuk Thla commune in Phnom Penh's Sen Sok district, had recently returned from New York City, one of the US' Covid-19 hotspots. She arrived in Cambodia on May 8 via a connecting flight in South Korea.

Citing her accounts, the ministry said she landed in New York in February but had been stranded there amid border closures due to the pandemic.

Upon arrival in Cambodia, the woman self-quarantined and went to the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital on May 12 for testing after prolonged suspicious symptoms. She tested negative but was told to continue self-quarantine.

Due to persistent symptoms, she had her samples taken for testing again on Friday and was confirmed Covid-19 positive. She is being treated at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital.

The latest case came just days after another 26-year-old Cambodian man tested positive, bringing the total infection cases now to 124. Of the number, 122 have been discharged from hospital.
