Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has encouraged the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to continue strengthening its engagement and coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to help accelerate the implementation of practical cooperation projects and maximise benefits for the Cambodian people.
Manet met with Zou Jiayi, who was recently appointed president of the Beijing-headquartered insitution, on the morning of April 1, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.
During the meeting, the Zou praised Cambodia’s rapid development and the government’s long-term national development vision. She also expressed gratitude to the Cambodian government and relevant ministries and institutions for their continued trust and support toward AIIB.
She highlighted the bank’s four key priority areas, including climate change and clean energy, regional and cross-border infrastructure connectivity, technology-enabled infrastructure development and private sector development.
Zou noted that these priorities align with Cambodia’s development vision, saying that Cambodia is considered one of the bank’s key strategic partners, and reaffirmed AIIB’s commitment to continuing to support development projects in the Kingdom.
Manet congratulated Zou on her appointment, expressing confidence that under her leadership, cooperation between Cambodia and AIIB would grow stronger and yield more fruitful outcomes.
He agreed that AIIB’s four priority areas closely align with Cambodia’s own development strategies and priority sectors.
Manet also informed the AIIB side about Cambodia’s plans to increase its share of renewable energy to 70% by 2030 and new policies which promote the use of electric vehicles (EVs), with the aim of contributing to the country’s long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality. He also highlighted key measures in the logistics and energy sectors which are intended to enhance its competitiveness, both regionally and globally.
According to the Cambodia Public Debt Statistical Bulletin, as of the end of 2025, Cambodia had received approximately $68.45 million in loans from AIIB, up from $53.9 million in 2024.
