South Korean company Saemyeong Energy Tech has shared plans to bring organic fertiliser production technology to Cambodia, through the establishment of a factory in the Kingdom
Cambodian ambassador to South Korea Khuon Phon Rattanak met with Saemyeong chairman Park Hee Soo at the Cambodian Embassy in Seoul on the morning of April 7.
Park explained how the company’s technology would support Cambodian farmers engaged in cultivating rice, corn, beans and other fruit and vegetables. With agriculture such an important part of Cambodia’s economy, he noted that the use of high-quality organic fertilisers could significantly increase yields.
“We want to see Cambodian agricultural products become internationally recognised organic products, helping to improve the livelihoods of the people, especially Cambodian farmers,” he said.
Ambassador Rattanak welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude for the company’s intention to improve the livelihoods of Cambodian workers.
“I encourage you to establish a factory or research facility for organic fertiliser production in Cambodia, and I invite you to visit Cambodia to connect with private sector actors in agriculture as well as relevant ministries and institutions,” he said.
He requested that Saemyeong consider recruiting Cambodian students or workers currently in Korea, as this would give them experience and technical skills which they could later apply upon returning to Cambodia to help accelerate the development of the agricultural sector.
Recently, Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul urged South Koreans to invest in Cambodia and encouraged private sectors from both countries to seize opportunities for partnerships in business and investment. She highlighted the benefits of utilising trade agreements such as the Cambodia–Korea Free Trade Agreement, the ASEAN–Korea Free Trade Agreement and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) to further boost bilateral trade.
South Korea is one of Cambodia’s major trading partners. In 2025, total trade between the two countries reached $923.05 million, an increase of 9.8% over 2024. Cambodia exported $326.78 million (up 2.3%), while imports totalled $596.27 million (up 14.4%), according to the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE).
