Sun Chanthol, first vice-chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), has highlighted the importance of the Kingdoms logistics systems in attracting investment to the Kingdom. He also noted its vital role in job creation.
Chanthol, who also chairs the National Logistics Council, shared his remarks at during the 10th National Logistics Council Meeting, held at the CDC headquarters on April 6. Also in attendance was Minister of Public Works and Transport Peng Ponea, who chairs the National Logistics Committee, along with government and private sector representatives.
“In view of the importance of the sector, the government launched the Comprehensive Master Plan on Cambodia Intermodal Transport and Logistics System 2023-2033, which includes a total of 174 projects with an investment requirement of approximately $36 billion, aimed at improving the logistics system in Cambodia,” explained Chanthol.
He stressed the need to reprioritise the 2023-2033 master plan to align with the current situation.
The participants discussed the master plan and the current progress of a draft logistics law, along with the “Logistics Dashboard” report supported by the World Bank and the Sihanoukville Logistics Complex development project.
Chanthol provided additional recommendations on the preparation of the Logistics Dashboard to ensure that the system includes the key indicators that will allow the government and private partners to obtain comprehensive information about the logistics sector in Cambodia.
Chea Chandara, president of the Logistics and Supply Chain Business Association in Cambodia, told The Post on April 7 that logistics plays a critical role in driving national economic growth. He noted that countries with weak logistics systems face significant challenges in attracting direct investment.
He explained that logistics encompasses all related infrastructure and activities, including roads, railways, seaports, and airports.
“Before investing in any location, investors carefully assess the logistics system. Transportation is extremely important,” he added.
