Cambodia and Türkiye have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening parliamentary relations, with goal of delivering mutual benefits for the people of both nations.
The commitment was highlighted during a meeting between National Assembly president Khuon Sudary and Ülkü Kocaefe, outgoing ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Cambodia. The meeting took place at the National Assembly (NA) on April 7.
Sudary praised the ambassador’s tenure, noting that it had achieved substantial results in expanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries. She noted that ties have become increasingly close, describing them as “active and deep” across both legislative and executive branches.
The NA president commended the strong and comprehensive partnership between Cambodia and Türkiye, built on mutual trust, respect and shared benefits.
She attributed these achievements to the tireless efforts of Ambassador Kocaefe and her colleagues, as well as strong political will and high-level commitment demonstrated through the implementation of practical cooperation projects across nearly all sectors.
“Cambodia–Türkiye relations have grown significantly since former prime minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s official visit to Türkiye in 2018,” Sudary said, adding that the relationship has continued to be strengthened under Prime Minister Hun Manet during the seventh legislature of the National Assembly.
She noted that since 2018, delegations from both countries’ parliaments and governments have exchanged visits and held regular discussions, generating mutual benefits.
In this context, she emphasised that further strengthening parliamentary relations remains a priority.
“Cambodia and Türkiye share many common values, including promoting peace and shared prosperity, adherence to international law, and support for open and inclusive multilateralism,” Sudary said.
“It is therefore essential that we continue working together and encourage other countries to uphold these principles at a time when the global situation remains complex and marked by conflicts,” she added.
The ambassador praised Sudary, describing her as a capable and talented female leader, noting that her leadership serves as an inspiration not only for Cambodian women but for society as a whole.
She added that her successor would continue to prioritise bilateral relations, particularly through strengthening parliamentary friendship groups and enhancing multilateral parliamentary cooperation, including within ASEAN frameworks.
Sudary expressed gratitude to Türkiye for its continued support to Cambodia’s development in key sectors such as trade, investment, tourism, education, healthcare and infrastructure.
“Parliamentary relations are of great importance. The NA represents the people, and Cambodia’s legislature consistently prioritises the interests of its citizens,” she said.
She called on Türkiye to continue supporting Cambodia in education and human resource development, noting that the government under Manet places a high priority on human capital development as a foundation for achieving its vision of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a developed nation by 2050.
