The National Assembly of Cambodia has unanimously approved a draft law on “Combating Technology-Based Fraud”, with 112 votes in favour.
During this morning’s 5th session of the 7th legislature, chaired by National Assembly (NA) president Khuon Sudary, lawmakers also unanimously passed an amendment to the law on Senate elections, again with 112/112 votes.
The new anti-tech fraud law consists of 5 chapters and 24 articles and is expected to strengthen legal measures against online scams, close gaps in existing legislation, improve law enforcement effectiveness, enhance public security and order, and boost international cooperation in tackling cybercrime.
The lawmakers approved it in full, with no opposition.
The second piece of approved legislation, an amendment to the Senate election law, aims to address long-standing challenges in the current system, which has been in place since 2005. Under that system, large multi-province electoral regions have reportedly made it difficult for some senators to maintain close connections with voters, ensure accountability and perform their roles effectively.
To address these issues, several key articles were revised in order to improve representation, strengthen accountability and bring senators closer to local communities. The amendment was also passed unanimously.
Following the session, Sudary announced the closure of the 5th session of the 7th legislature, which had been in progress since November 28, 2025.
