A senior leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam is set to pay an official visit to Cambodia later this week, in a move aimed at further strengthening bilateral ties and advancing cooperation across a wide range of strategic sectors.
According to a statement from the ruling Cambodia People’s Party (CPP), Tran Cam Tu, a member of the Politburo and standing member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam, will visit the Kingdom from April 9 to 10, at the invitation of Say Chhum, CPP vice-president and head of its Standing Committee.
The visit is expected to carry significant political and diplomatic weight, as both sides seek to implement key outcomes agreed during a high-level February 6 meeting between the CPP Standing Committee and the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
It said the upcoming trip also reflects the continued commitment of both parties to deepen relations under the long-standing framework of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term stability”, which has guided Cambodia–Vietnam ties for decades.
During his stay, Tran Cam Tu is scheduled to hold courtesy meetings and working discussions with senior leaders of the CPP, as well as top officials from the Senate, the National Assembly and the Royal Government.
“The visit is also expected to further promote cooperation in key sectors, including diplomacy, national defence, security, economy, trade, investment, science and technology, digital transformation, education and tourism,” the press release said.
“People-to-people exchanges — an increasingly important pillar of bilateral relations — are also set to be reinforced,” it added.
