Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul, during the opening ceremony for the “Cambodian-Thai Business Matching 2023” in Phnom Penh last weekend, encouraged the Cambodia Youth Entrepreneurs Association for Development (CYEAD) to regularly conduct such programmes.

The October 28 event, organised by CYEAD and attended by representatives from the commerce ministry, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) and the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh, brought together numerous business figures from both countries.

Nimul said Cambodia is ready to welcome Thai entrepreneurs and investors, offering them opportunities to explore investment projects, potential collaborations, and the benefits of bilateral and regional trade agreements.

“The ministry is consistently prepared to facilitate investment, support private sector enterprises, streamline public services and contribute to the progress of trade and investment through privatisation,” she said.

CYEAD president Hong Chhengchhun said the forum’s pivotal role is in fostering investment and driving socio-economic progress.

He noted that the Cambodian-Thai business matching programme received significant backing from the Cambodian embassy in Bangkok, particularly in terms of assisting Thai investors who wish to invest in Cambodia.

“The business matching programme offers a distinct chance for entrepreneurs from Cambodia and Thailand to establish networks, exchange ideas and identify potential business partners,” he said.

“I expect that this event will foster stronger Cambodian-Thai relations and contribute to Cambodia’s development. Additionally, the association is preparing for a Cambodia-Japan business matching forum in the near future,” he stated.

He said the goal is to broaden the extent of business collaboration among Asian nations.

In the first nine months of 2023, trade between Cambodia and Thailand totalled over $2.8 billion, marking an 18 per cent decline. Cambodia’s exports to Thailand stood at over $652 million, while imports from Thailand reached more than $2.17 billion.
