The efficiency of Cambodia’s logistics sector is expected to improve following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia (GDCE) and DHL Express (Cambodia) Ltd.
The MoU focuses on the management and exchange of information and packages for fast-track delivery.
The March 27 signing ceremony, held at the GDCE headquarters, was witnessed by Kun Nhem, GDCE director-general, and Prayag Chitrakar, CEO of DHL Express (Cambodia) Ltd.
The MoU aims to streamline customs clearance procedures for fast-track delivery packages, promote transparency, enhance efficiency and foster stronger collaboration between the two signatories.
Chitrakar expressed his enthusiasm for the agreement, highlighting his belief that it will contribute to the further improvement of the fast-track delivery sector.
He emphasised the goal of transforming the Kingdom into a regional logistics hub and improving its competitiveness in the sector.
Nhem described the MoU as a milestone, which would enhance trade facilitation, improve the business environment and attract investment to Cambodia, as well as support the government's efforts in national economic development. These efforts will make customs clearance procedures more convenient and faster, he added.
According to DHL, the key aspects of the MoU include strengthening cooperation through connecting automated systems and electronic data exchange, reducing documentation requirements for customs processes, minimising the burden of data entry in customs procedures and improving risk management functions, among other aspects.
In the past, the GDCE has signed MoUs with several institutions and companies, including the Cambodia Electronic and Technology Association (CETA), the Chip Mong Insee Cement Corporation and Cambodia Post.
The Cambodia Post MoU focused on the exchange of postal package information to facilitate further collaboration and enhance compliance in customs clearance procedures.
Sin Chanthy, president of the Cambodian Logistics Association (CLA), participated in the MoU signing ceremony.
On March 27, he told The Post that the MoU will contribute to enhancing and improving the efficiency of the transportation sector in Cambodia.
He explained that as it includes the sharing of information and the development of information systems, it will make the transportation of goods faster and more efficient than before.
“This MoU will contribute to improving the efficiency and speed of goods transportation between Cambodia and other countries, making it even better than before,” he said.
