Cambodia exported a total of 651,522 tonnes of rice in 2024, generating $491.19 million in revenue, according to a January 10 press release from the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF).

According to the statement, 57 licensed rice exporters shipped their produce to 68 nations. Of them, Europe accounted for 26 markets, with 327,156 tonnes of rice, valued at $253.18 million, reaching their shores.

China, including Hong Kong and Macau, imported 117,925 tonnes, equivalent to $75.66 million, while ASEAN member countries imported 127,076 tonnes, generating $92.70 million.

An additional 32 destinations, including in Africa, the Middle East, the Americas and Oceania, received 79,365 tonnes of rice, valued at $69.54 million.

Fragrant rice made up the largest proportion of exports, accounting for 76.15% of total exports, followed by white rice at 18.70%, parboiled rice at 3.10%, organic rice at 1.78% and other rice varieties at 0.27%.

“Cambodia also exported 5,180,155 tonnes of wet paddy rice, generating approximately $1.496 billion. Of this, 89% was exported with certification from the relevant authorities,” added the statement.

Lun Yeng, CRF secretary-general, noted that rice exports in 2024 declined by about 1%, explaining that the minor dip was due to transportation challenges to Europe, such as a shortage of containers.
