The upcoming Kampong Chhnang Multipurpose Port and Logistics Centre, featuring state-of-the-art digital technology, is set to revolutionise goods management. Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol praised the port’s potential to stimulate economic growth and enhance national revenue management during a site visit on June 26.

During the inspection tour, Chanthol disclosed that the centre is nearing readiness for its official launch and forthcoming export operations. The digital tech incorporated is expected to streamline the handling of goods from the private sector into the port, thus providing an economic advantage.

“The Kampong Chhnang Multipurpose Port and Logistics Centre leverages artificial intelligence and a smart vehicle tracking system (STM) to simplify management, monitoring, and control processes,” Chanthol explained.

He emphasised how the digital modernisation of port operations would increase work efficiency, reduce transportation overload, and provide transparency to private businesses.

The Public Works and Transport Ministry stated that the application of AI and STM technology is aimed at promoting the transport and export of agricultural products from Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap, and Kampong Thom provinces.

This strategy will facilitate access to national and international markets via waterways, concurrently decreasing related transportation costs and duration.

Kampong Chhnang provincial governor Sun Sovannarith expressed his support for the port.

“We anticipate the smart truck monitoring system will reduce truck overloads more efficiently, potentially accelerating our national economic growth,” Sovannarith said on June 27.

With an investment of $300 to $500 million, the Kampong Chhnang Multipurpose Port and Logistics Centre emerges as Cambodia’s fourth ‘economic pole’, following Phnom Penh, Preah Sihanouk, and Siem Reap.
