King’s, Vattanacville, partner to Europe’s oldest public school, opens in Phnom Penh

The King’s School, Vattanacville – a partner school to The King’s School, Canterbury – opened to children aged three to eight (Pre-Prep and Prep) on August 16, 2023 at its stunning City Campus, the Vattanac Capital lifestyle cube.

The King’s School, Canterbury – Europe’s oldest public school dating from 597AD – started as a medieval cathedral school founded by Augustine of Canterbury, considered the "Apostle to the English" and a founder of the English Church.

When the Dissolution of the Monasteries took place, the school in the English county of Kent, was re-founded by royal charter in 1541 as The King's School, referring to King Henry VIII.

Alumni include one of England’s most celebrated playwrights, Christopher Marlowe, as well as writer W Somerset Maugham and novelist Sir Hugh Walpole.

Some of the more recent notable alumni include ex-England cricket captain David Gower, triple Olympic medallist Fran Houghton and War Horse author Michael Morpugo.

At The King’s School, Vattanacville in Cambodia, the students get to embark on their education journey with a rich intellectual heritage that extends back more than 1,400 years.

The success and longevity of The Kings School, Canterbury has stood the test of time, such that it remains as relevant to children and young adults globally today as it did 1,000 years ago.
