A Thai delegation from Trat province’s chamber of commerce recently visited Koh Kong province to explore the potential of its tourist port.
They hope to stimulate economic growth by connecting trade, investment and tourist routes between the two provinces.
According to a social media post by the Koh Kong provincial authorities, the visit, coordinated with the Koh Kong chamber of commerce, aimed to comprehend the port’s potential.
Talks also took place regarding the exchange of experiences to benefit both the Dong Tung tourist port in Koh Kong and the Khlong Yai multi-purpose port in Trat.
Koh Kong deputy governor Sok Sothy said the visit was intended to bolster provincial economies through increased investment, trade and tourism.
He highlighted Koh Kong’s recreational facilities and beautiful natural islands.
Sothy added that maintaining a good relationship with Trat province is essential. It would not only strengthen border ties between the two countries but also bolster political relations.
“So far, we’ve enjoyed strong relations in both investment and tourism. Therefore, if any party is interested in investing, it will enhance mutual investment, foster business transactions and encourage goods exchange,” he said.
The Dong Tung tourist port, inaugurated on June 23, is a modern architectural achievement inspired by the designs of Cambodian children.
The port is expected to foster connectivity and diversity in marine transport, according to Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol.
Koh Kong governor Mithona Phuthong concurred, saying the port is vital for enhancing marine infrastructure across Cambodia’s four coastal provinces.
The expectation is to stimulate inclusive economic growth across Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam, the three coastal nations of the Mekong sub-region.
