Prime Minister Hun Sen has issued a new taxable income table sub-decree, declaring that those with a salary below 1.5 million riel ($370) a month or an income of 18 million riel per year will be tax-exempt.

The September 28 sub-decree stated that employees with a monthly salary of 1.5 to 2 million riel will be subject to a 5 per cent income tax, while those with a monthly salary from 2.1 to 8.5 million riel are subject to a 10 per cent income tax.

It added that for those with a monthly salary from 8.5 to 12.5 million riel will be subject to a 15 per cent tax, and those with a monthly salary of more than 12.5 million will be subject to 20 per cent.
