LOLC Cambodia, the leading microfinance institution in Cambodia, has expanded its humanitarian efforts, showcasing its commitment to investing in the Kingdom’s future leaders. The company delivered study materials, including new school bags and notebooks, to over 1,450 students across eight schools in Kampong Chhnang Province.

The distribution event was attended by Sok Voeun, Chief Executive Officer of the company, along with the Senior Management Team and several LOLC working groups.

Joining them were Lieutenant General Lim Tong Huot, Director of the Education and Public Relations Department at the National Authority for Combating Drugs, and representatives from the Primary School Office of the Department of Education, Youth and Sport of Kampong Chhnang Province. The initiative aimed to provide essential study materials for young students, particularly those in remote areas, who often have limited access to adequate educational resources.

“Along with delivering quality financial services to our customers, we are committed to making a positive impact on the community. What brings the LOLC family the greatest joy is seeing the smiles on the faces of students and teachers,” said Sok Voeun, CEO of LOLC.

“We are delighted to contribute to their needs and hope that this humanitarian effort will significantly support the education sector while inspiring young people to embrace a culture of sharing. Together, we aim to help alleviate the hardships faced by those in need,” he continued.

The beneficiary schools included Koh Krabei Primary School, Koh Russey Primary School, Pralay Meas Primary School, Plov Touk Primary School, Anlong Kanhchos Primary School, Stung Chrov Primary School, Damnak Reach Primary School and Prek Spean Primary School.

The new materials will inspire young students to persevere and stay committed to pursuing higher education, benefiting their future, their families and society as a whole.

This is not the first time LOLC has organised such a humanitarian initiative. Recently, the company completed the distribution of school supplies to 3,400 students across 20 remote primary schools and awarded computers to 46 young Cambodians – the children of LOLC clients – who earned grade A in last year’s Bac II examination.

Following the ceremony, To Sinai, Principal of Koh Krabei Primary School, expressed his gratitude for the LOLC’s efforts to support the futures of his students.

“On behalf of Koh Krabei Primary School, we are thrilled and grateful. We have seen LOLC’s social initiatives on its official Facebook page, including awarding computers to A-grade high school students and distributing study materials to students in Ratanakkiri province. Today, we are delighted to welcome LOLC to our school and other schools in Kampong Chhnang province, where they are generously providing these valuable study materials to our students,” he said.

Nil Srey Nich a teacher at Anlong Kanhchos Primary School, explained the powerful effect the generosity of LOLC would have in her classroom.

“Our school is located far from the provincial town. It is accessible only by water way, so seeing the LOLC team make the effort to travel here directly is truly heartwarming. My fellow teachers and I are thrilled. This is the first time our school has received such meaningful gifts, and they genuinely help meet the needs of our students,” she said.

She added that the company’s distribution activities highlight the fact that promoting the education sector is not solely the responsibility of the Royal Government of Cambodia. Private institutions, including microfinance organizations, can also play a significant role in contributing to this important work.

The distribution was successfully completed, bringing joyful smiles to the students, teachers, management, LOLC members, and the community as a whole.

LOLC remains committed to its mission of supporting education, welfare and enhancing financial literacy within the community. To continue with its important work, LOLC has prepared over 5,000 additional sets of study materials, including bags and books, which will be distributed to students in the near future.
