Locally owned Rose Plastics (Cambodia) Co Ltd which manufactures PVC and PE pipes launched operations on Sunday after a year of construction.
Located along National Road 3 in Pong Teuk commune, Dangkor district, on the outskirts of the capital, the factory will respond to the fast development of buildings and the construction sector which has been importing a lot of the pipes to supply the local market.
Lieutenant General Hun Manet, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and the commander of the army’s infantry, presided over the factory’s launch.
He said the establishment of the factory epitomises the trust of local and foreign investors in the government. It will also help to supply the local market and compete with import products.
“As such, Rose Plastics Cambodia which manufactures PVC and PE pipes is an example of the contribution by private-public partnerships to promote the development of the industrial sector.
“It will also enhance private-sector entrepreneurship to sustain the country’s economic growth as well as show the world that we can produce products that bear the ‘Made in Cambodia’ stamp,” he said.
A factory staff who asked to remain anonymous told The Post on Monday that it is producing all kinds of PVC and PE pipes to serve domestic consumption, mainly in Phnom Penh, where construction is booming.
“Our customers are very satisfied with our quality. We can compete with imported products,” he said.
Manet said the company already has ISO certification for products which is a mark of quality that customers can rely on. He said the company also plans to export to countries in the Mekong sub-region and Asean.
“The potential reflects the fact that our economy has seen high growth over the past 20 years due to a combination of factors, including improvements in the people’s standard of living, and efficiency in the civil service, military forces, civil society and the private sector,” he said.
He said in the 1990s, almost all products sold in the Kingdom were imported, “but we didn’t have products from Asia”.
“Now, many products are produced in our country for domestic consumption. At the same time, international markets also have Cambodian products for sale.
“This is our national pride as Khmer because exporting to Europe and the US calls for having high standards so that we can enter those markets. Today, we have proven that our capacity to produce products of quality and in required quantities are internationally recognised.
In January, conglomerate Chip Mong Group’s subsidiary Chip Mong Industry also launched a roof tile and pipe-processing plant, which can produce about 5,000 tonnes per month.
