EMCAST – in partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) – has launched a continuing professional development (CPD) programme for secondary school teachers to align with the efforts of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) in pushing STEM policy.
EMCAST signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MoEYS for STEM CPD training for teachers in 2022 and is collaborating with the ministry's New Generation Pedagogical Research Center (NGPRC) to empower teachers to carry out competency-based learning under national curricula, especially for STEM subjects.
Since February 2023, EMCAST has been extending CPD training seminars to 30 secondary schools designated as STEM priority schools by MoEYS.
EMCAST is utilising its online learning platform to amplify the impact of its STEM CPD programme.
The company aims to deliver STEM CPD training to 1,000 teachers in Phnom Penh and provinces including Kampong Cham and Kampong Speu by the end of 2023.
Once teachers successfully complete the STEM CPD programme, they are nominated as certified STEM Ambassadors.
These STEM Ambassadors will continue competence-based learning and flipped learning for STEM education and pass it on to other teachers in the regions.
In late June, the 1st STEM Ambassadors Social Party is to be held, with teachers who tried the competency-based learning through flipped classrooms sharing their experiences and discussing ideas for improvement.
