More than 6,000 Buddhists monks and devotees attended the "Bon Pka Samaki" ceremony held atop Bokor Mountain in Cambodia on September 23-24.
The spiritual gathering demonstrated a magnificent display of faith as participants from across the Kingdom congregated to contribute towards the construction of the towering 108m-tall Buddha statue at the site.
The "Bon Pka Samaki" ceremony unfolded within the breathtaking landscape of the "500 Rice Fields" area of the Preah Monivong Bokor National Park.
The event was orchestrated under the guidance of Venerable Chan Visal, adviser to the Venerable Tep Vong, Sangreacheathepatey, the esteemed Great Supreme Patriarch of Cambodian Buddhism.
Venerable Chan Visal, who serves as the head monk of the Paransey Serey Mongkul Pagoda in Prey Veng province, collaborated closely with Neak Oknha Dr Sok Kong, the chairman of Sokimex Investment Group, the driving force behind the monumental project.
For those with benevolent hearts, the opportunity to contribute to the construction of the 108m-tall statue through donations remains open.
Alternatively, individuals can donate $268, $688, $888 or $1,108 and have their names inscribed on the 0.31m-high Buddha statues set to be placed on the inner wall of the pedestal beneath the monumental statue.
Making the act even more meaningful is that the names of the generous Buddhist donors, as well as those of their forebears or descendants, will be etched into history, accumulating merit and creating a lasting legacy.
The aspiration behind the construction of the colossal 108m-high Buddha statue, destined to be the largest in Cambodia and among the tallest in the world, is to embody the vision and generosity of Neak Oknha Dr Sok Kong.
Combining elements of history and contemporary aesthetics, the monumental Buddha statue will stand as a revered national cultural treasure, safeguarding Cambodia's profound religious heritage, while serving as a pre-eminent shrine and a testament to that legacy for generations to come.
