August 2022, Phnom Penh, Cambodia – The recently concluded IQ Tests conducted by Tutor Impact UK, held on the 4th and 5th of June, have yielded remarkable results. Out of 77 children who successfully completed the internationally recognised IQ test, 13 (which is 17% of the total) tested in the “gifted” level with an IQ score of 130 or above, and another 10 kids (or 13%) were able to reach the “superior” level with an IQ score of 120-129. These impressive results significantly exceed the global average of 6-8% of children attaining the “gifted” IQ level, according to the National Association for Gifted Children.
The IQ tests were conducted as part of the selection process for the Gifted Children Scholarship Programme launched by Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh this year. This initiative received strong support from parents, who signed their children up for the test to know more about their abilities, and to assist them in choosing the right school to enhance their skills and talents.
Mr. Charles Wong, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh, stated that “Our school’s primary objectives include identifying talented children as early as possible and providing them with financial support and high quality education during their early development stages”.
Mr. Wong continued, saying: “We are delighted to share this great news with the parents of the test-takers, and to discuss their children’s future education pathways. We are also very excited to inform the public of the outstanding accomplishments of Phnom Penh’s children in displaying cognitive excellence at such an early stage”.
To celebrate the milestone reached by these gifted children, and to increase their motivation for learning, a Scholarship Award Ceremony will be held on 27 August 2022, at the Flatiron by Meridian Building. Awardees will receive a scholarship certificate, which will be presented by Mr. Toby Waterson, Founding Principal of Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh, and H.E. Dr. San Vathana, Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
We extend our special congratulations to the children for their outstanding results.
Moreover, the school is excited to announce that the famous Cambodian singer Mrs. AddaAngel has been invited to join the gifted children’s parents for a panel discussion on the topic of “How to raise a gifted child?”, and to discuss and share parenting tips with each other.
The whole event is going to be a fun-filled celebration to acknowledge and appreciate the gifted children and their families, with a range of stimulating games for the children to take part in.
Shrewsbury International School is delighted to announce that in appreciation of these “gifted” and “superior” children, Tutor Impact UK will offer additional scholarships of $5,000 for attending a one-year certificate of the Gifted & Talented Programme (GTP), taught by Tutor Impact UK’s Oxford and Cambridge students and graduates.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that by knowing the intelligence level of their children, parents will be in a better position to find the right school for their child’s individual learning needs. For Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh, getting to know our future pupils and their cognitive abilities is the first step towards implementing the Shrewsbury School educational philosophy and the best features of the British curriculum.
