The National Incubation Center of Cambodia(NICC) hosted The Korea-Cambodia University Startup Exchange Program 2024 Interim Report session at the NICC building in Phnom Penh on July 19.
Students from South Korea’s Hanyang University visited Cambodia from July 15 to 19 as part of the "Kor-Cam University Startup Exchange Program" organized by NICC and Hanyang University. They conducted various activities, including a local market survey and prototype development.
This year, the programme provides opportunities not only to students living in Phnom Penh, but also to students living in the provinces.
One professor, who is participating as a student leader at a local university, expressed his satisfaction with the programme.
“The chance to take part in international start-up exchanges provides fantastic experiences for students who live in the provinces. We are grateful to KOICA and NICC for providing these opportunities, and we hope that more will be made available to our students, especially those from distant provinces,” he said.
The programme is being conducted under the “Establishment of Business Incubation System between Universities and Industry in Cambodia”, a joint project between the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Cambodia's Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport.
Mr. Kean Tak, Vice-Rector of the Royal University of Phnom Penh, Dr. Srun Sovila, Director of the National Incubation Center Of Cambodia, and Mr. Var Sovanndara, Deputy Director of NICC, as well as judges and 24 students, are taking part.
NICC supports incubated startup teams through mentoring, training, and consultation matching with investors in the startup ecosystem.
Students from both countries will conduct online startup activities for several months. In early October, the Cambodian students will visit Hanyang University where the final winners will be determined, based on a final presentation that they have prepared for three months. The final winner will be offered $1,000 in seed money, the startup’s initial funding.
