Shinhan Bank Cambodia is set to ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Cambodian Forestry Administration and the Korea-Mekong Forest Cooperation Center

In collaboration with Korea Forest Service Minister Lim Sang-seop, Shinhan Bank (Cambodia) Plc is actively supporting the development of forest lodges for family-based forest recreation services within the Cambodia-Korea Forest Recreation Site.

The site, in Siem Reap province, is currently being established as part of an overseas development assistance project by the Korea Forest Service which began in 2021, in collaboration with the Cambodian government.

On October 11, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be signed at the headquarters of Cambodia’s Forestry Administration.

The signatories will include Shinhan Bank (Cambodia) Plc (led by CEO Park Hee-jin), the Forestry Administration (represented by Acting Director General Suon Sovann) and the Korea-Mekong Forest Cooperation Center (headed by Director Kim Kyongha). The MOU aims to foster cooperation in the promotion of Cambodia's forest recreation and cultural services.

Shinhan Bank (Cambodia) Plc plans to develop family-oriented forest bungalows and walking trails, and to implement long-term programs offering free forest environment and ecological education to underprivileged youth from local communities. This initiative is part of the bank’s broader corporate social responsibility commitment to improving the quality of life in the region.

Through the agreement, Shinhan Bank (Cambodia) Plc, the Forestry Administration of Cambodia, and the Korea-Mekong Forest Cooperation Center will work closely to expand forest recreation content, provide environmental and ecological education for future generations, and promote the overall revitalisation of Cambodia's forest culture and leisure activities.

CEO Park Hee-jin emphasised, "This agreement allows us to further fulfil our role as a socially responsible financial institution by promoting forest recreation, cultural activities, and ecological education."

As the first Korean financial institution established in Cambodia, Shinhan Bank (Cambodia) Plc operates 14 branches in Phnom Penh and one in Siem Reap. The bank has consistently supported educational development projects in local public schools and special education institutions.

The Cambodia-Korea Forest Recreation Site, located in Siem Reap province’s Banteay Srei district, is set to open in May next year. The site will feature accommodation for 70 guests, camping grounds, various trekking courses, and specialised facilities for forest education and recreational sports.
