The Sichuan Lantern Fantasy – the spectacular Chinese cultural show – is set to illuminate the Cambodian capital, with its arrival officially announced at a press conference at Topaz restaurant in Phnom Penh on April 6.
The event was attended by Eric Lim, CEO of Engage by Universal Alliance, HE Yem Noy from the Ministry of Information, HE Kong Roth Lomong and HE Lay Prohas from the Ministry of Tourism, and HE Zha Ming Wei from the Chinese Embassy.
HE Khun Rachana from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, HE Ek Buntha from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Art, and Sarah Liang, the general manager of Lantern Fantasy Culture Management, were also present.
Combining interactive sound, light technology, creative arts, education and culture, Sichuan Lantern Fantasy will be held at Dinosaurs Alive in Phnom Penh's Chroy Changvar district for three months from May 1 to July 31, 2023.
Sichuan Lantern Fantasy is one of the largest folk cultural activities in China, one that delights people all over the world.
Having received numerous awards from countries around the world, including the UK and the US, the show has toured Australia, Ireland, Japan, France and Germany, as well as across South America, and is now coming to Phnom Penh for the first time.
Sichuan Lantern Fantasy is being brought to Cambodia by Deyang Cultural, Tourism and Health Industry Development Group, Lantern Fantasy Culture Management Co, Ltd, and Canadia Integrated Enterprise Group, and is being managed by ENGAGE Universal Alliance Co, Ltd.
The history of lantern shows in Sichuan Province can be traced back to the Tang (618-907AD) and Song (960-1279AD) dynasties, and have developed into an important cultural activity with spectacular performances.
Deyang Cultural, Tourism and Health Industry Development Group, from China's Sichuan province, is world famous for organising the official Chinese Lantern Festival, the Chinese Panda Festival and the Global Lantern Festival in China.
