Hotel Emion Phnom Penh which is a very luxury 19-storey hotel with 240 rooms of Japanese Starts (Cambodia) corporation was inaugurated officially and presided over by H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism and H.E. Hidehisa Horinouchi , Japanese ambassador to Cambodia on 08 November 2018 while all Cambodian people were celebrating the 65th anniversary of the 9 November National Independence Day and also while Cambodia and Japan were celebrating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

H.E Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, said that this very luxury Hotel Emion Phnom Penh was constructed with high innovation and environmental thinking and is one of the 7 Japanese large-scale investments (6 projects are the investments in hotel sector and 1 project is in resort sector (V-Pine Kirirom Resort) which were registered with the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).

H.E. Minister added that besides Japanese large-scale investments, Cambodia also had big famous hotels such as Park Hyatt, Sofitel, le Meridien, Amansara, Raffles, Marriots, Rosewood, Great Duke etc. and there are also other big hotels in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Preah Sihanouk being constructed.

Anyway, on island areas there are also good resorts such as Sangsa island, Krabey island (buffalo island), Russey island (bamboo island), Sdach island (king island) etc.

Among accommodation service, the hotel sector is fast growing. Currently throughout Cambodia there are 801 hotels (with 46,099 rooms) and 2,261guesthouses, in which Phnom Penh has 313 hotels (with 19,337 rooms) and there are 8 Japanese hotels (with 614 rooms). There are 2,286 restaurants/ canteens (with 134,597 chairs), in which Phnom Penh has 527 restaurants/canteens (with 56,490 chairs) and there are 47 restaurants/canteens that are invested by Japanese.

Be noted that of around 5.6 million international tourists in 2017, Cambodia had around 200,000 Japanese tourists (around 80,000 Japanese tourists came to Phnom Penh, a 27% increase and in the first 8 months of 2018, Cambodia got more than 3.9 million international tourists, a 11.7% increase, in which more than 130,000 were Japanese tourists (more than 70,000 Japanese tourists came to Phnom Penh, a 13% increase).
