Sub editor, Reporter, Junior Reporter

The Phnom Penh Post is an independent media company in Cambodia and is seeking a fulltime qualified candidates to fill the positions as described below:
 
1- Sub-Editor : 2 Positions
2- Reporter : 5 Positions
3- Junior Reporter : 3 Positions
4- Translator : 2 Positions

 
1- SUB-EDITORS
 
Main duties and responsibilities
 
1. Reports to chief sub-editor on all day-to-day matters
2. Manages the layout of pages, and uses editing software i.e. Indesign and Incopy
3. Communicate effectively with reporters in English and Khmer (preferred but not necessary)
 
Qualifications and experience required
 
1. Bachelor’s degree in journalism or its equivalent (preferred but not vital)
2. Fluent in English is a must, fluency in Khmer will be an asset
3. One to two years experience as a sub-editor
4. Experience in news / business reporting
5. Familiar with names of government ministries, departments and agencies
6. Familiar with specific language used in court, crime and political stories
7. Sound understanding of local politics and business atmosphere
8. Cambodian nationals preferred but foreign nationalities are encouraged to apply
 
2- REPORTERS
 
Main duties and responsibilities
 
1. Reports to assignment editor
2. Language fluency, and ability to write well in English and Khmer
3. Keen sense of what is news and how to present it in a fair and unbiased manner
4. Covering and writing articles for national news / business desk
5. Developing own story ideas
6. Effectively carrying out news/business assignments
7. Able to travel to provinces to cover and write interesting news/business articles
8. Working as a team and able to grow and learn more on the job
 
Qualifications and experience required
 
1. Bachelor’s degree in journalism or its equivalent (preferred but not vital)
2. At least two years experience as a journalist in a daily newspaper
3. Must be able to speak and write fluently in English
4. Fluent in spoken and written Khmer necessary but not vital
5. Fluency in spoken and written English is a must
6. Computer literacy (ability to type in Khmer Unicode, though not vital for foreign applicants), MS Word etc
7. Cambodian nationals preferred but foreign nationalities are encouraged to apply
 
3- JUNIOR REPORTERS
 
Main duties and responsibilities
 
1. Reports to assignment editor
2. Covering and writing articles for national news
3. Developing own story ideas
4. Effectively carrying out news assignments
5. Working as a team and able to grow and learn more on the job
 
Qualifications and experience required
 
1. Fresh graduate in journalism or its equivalent
2. No experience or one year experience as a journalist
3. Fluent in spoken and written Khmer
4. Good in spoken and written English
 
4- TRANSLATORS
 
Main duties and responsibilities:
 
• Translate articles in English into Khmer and vice versa
• Get assignments for translation from national news editors and sub-editors
• Work closely with national news editors and sub-editors
• Verify quotes, names and positions of sources with writers
 
Qualifications and experience required:
 
• Bachelor’s degree in English literature or an equivalent degree
• At least two year’s experience in translation for other media organisation
• Computer literacy (can type Khmer Unicode)
