Puy Du Fou, a French theme park operator, has expressed interest in launching a groundbreaking "Immersive Angkor" 3D museum in Cambodia. 

Geoffroy Ladet, the CEO of Puy Du Fou Asia, announced the project during a meeting with Prime Minister Hun Manet in Paris on January 15, as per a statement posted to Manet’s social media.

Ladet briefed Manet on his company's advancements in Cambodia and outlined the "Immersive Angkor" initiative, employing 3D scanning to showcase Khmer culture to visitors.

The project, introduced as a complementary addition to the tourism sector, aims to enhance the experience beyond visiting ancient temples and exploring ancient Khmer culture. The post indicated that the launch of Immersive Angkor is “imminent”.

Manet expressed his full support for the venture, deeming it “excellent”. He highlighted its potential to enlighten the younger generation and the general public about their rich cultural heritage and civilisation.

Originally slated for 2021 but postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the virtual museum will showcase 360-degree, 3D images and videos of the Angkor temples within the archaeological park. 

This will be achieved through the use of large-scale scanning drones, ensuring a photorealistic quality for the immersive experience. The project is set to unfold in collaboration with the Apsara National Authority (ANA).
