The Angkor Sangkran celebrations in Siem Reap’s Angkor Archaeological Park will promote the beautiful Cambodian culture by displaying traditional houses, costumes and folk games from each significant period in the Kingdom’s history, said Hun Many, head of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC).

While inspecting the progress of the six designated areas on April 8, Many was pleased to announce that the displays would be completed in time for the big event.

He added that this year’s programme marks the 10th anniversary of Angkor Sangkran, and the onset of the 32nd SEA Games and 12th ASEAN Para Games.

He continued that Angkor Sangkran would promote Cambodian culture, enhance the prestige of the nation and express Cambodian pride.

“We worked closely with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and teachers from the School of Fine Arts to make certain that every detail is accurate,” he said.

Before Angkor Sangkran arrives, the UYFC on April 8 initiated a bike-run programme, with about 412 UYFC members participating.

Som Ratana, head of the working group for dissemination and public relations of the Angkor Sangkran commission, said that the pre-Angkor Sangkran event provided great pleasure to all of the participants.

He added that it was used to promote the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEA Para Games.

“Participants bought tickets and T-shirts, and the money we made was donated to the Angkor Hospital for Children,” he said.

Angkor Sangkran is set to take place on April 14-16 with the theme “Hopes and Dreams”. The event aims to offer Cambodian and foreign visitors to Siem Reap the chance to gather, have fun, and create unforgettable memories during the Khmer New Year, said UYFC.
