Cambodia’s connection with Taylor Swift’s legacy continues, with the Ministry of Tourism sharing the music video for her song “Timeless”, released eight months ago.
Tay-tay’s recent sold out tour dates in Singapore, where her maternal grandparents spent around a decade in the 1960s, returned the famous singer’s connection with Cambodia to the spotlight, as at least two of her most-loved videos feature images and video of her grandparents visiting the Kingdom’s famous archaeological wonders in Siem Reap province.
The video for “Marjorie”, released three years ago, was a loving tribute to her grandmother Marjorie. It featured home movie footage of her grandmother admiring the incredible temples of Angkor.
Swift also included images of her grandparents visiting Ta Prohm Temple in the video for “Timeless”, drawing the renewed attention of the tourism ministry, as well as the Cambodian public.
The ministry said in a March 13 social media post that Swift “made the deliberate decision” to include Cambodia once more, just as she had in the video for “Marjorie”, taken from the album, “Evermore”.
“Timeless” is an classic story of true love, in which Swift imagines discovering a box of vintage images in an antique shop and then explains to her lover that how would have always found each other, even across decades.
The accompanying video features images and super-eight footage of both sets of her grandparents, spanning decades in time and thousands of miles of distance.
“It is worth noting that the composition appears to draw inspiration from Taylor's grandparents' heartfelt love story,” said the ministry.
“Furthermore, it is of significance that the video for "Timeless" showcases a collection of photographs from her family albums, prominently featuring the renowned Ta Prohm Temple in Cambodia at 2:52 of the video,” it added.
