Japanese, Cambodian armies pledge closer cooperation

The armies of Cambodia and Japan vowed to improve their cooperation and will support each other through the regional framework to promote peace, stability and development, said the army commanders of the two countries.

The commitment was made on the afternoon of March 24 during a telephone conversation between Hun Manet, deputy commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Force (RCAF) and commander of the army, and Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) Chief of Staff General Yoshihide Yoshida.

An RCAF social media post said that during the phone call, both sides had expressed their satisfaction with the development of the relationship between the two armies.

The two commanders also recalled their signing of terms of reference (ToR) for the cooperation last month and regarded it as a great achievement towards building a permanent relationship between the two armies in the future.

Manet thanked Yoshida for the high value he placed on the friendship and solidarity between the two forces. He added his gratitude for Japan’s commitment to strengthening and expanding demining cooperation and that of disaster relief, as well as human resource training.

“Both sides agreed to support each other and encourage cooperation in the army sector to move forward more actively through the implementation of the contents of the ToR. They will continue to support one another and promote peace, stability and inclusive development, through the regional framework,” said the RCAF post.
