The National Election Committee (NEC) on August 1 released its official preliminary results of the July 23 general election, confirming that the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) garnered 6,398,311 of the total 8,214,430 votes cast and secured 120 out of the National Assembly’s 125 seats.

The only runner-up, FUNCINPEC Party, won 716,490 votes, effectively holding on to the remaining five seats as indicated by the early results released a day after the election. The royalist party, led by Prince Norodom Chakravuth, took one seat each in Phnom Penh and four provincial constituencies of Kandal, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom and Prey Veng.

According to the NEC, of the total 8,214,430 votes, 440,154 were spoilt and rendered invalid.
