Russian envoy lauds trade relations with Cambodia

Russian ambassador to Cambodia Anatoly Borovik said bilateral relations between the two nations have continued to improve in many areas, especially trade.

Addressing a March 31 press conference on “Russia-Cambodia Relations,” the envoy noted that this year marks the 67th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

He said Russia and Cambodia have cooperated in many areas, and that the relationships between their state institutions are developing well.

“We have paid close attention to the development of political dialogue, for example with the ruling party of Cambodia. Our country has continued to interact in areas of education, culture, peace and security in several international forums, especially within the UN and ASEAN frameworks,” he said.

Borovik said many countries in Southeast Asia, including Cambodia, have paid close attention to Russia's experience in tackling emerging challenges and threats, including counterterrorism, drug trafficking and cybercrime. Trade relations between the two countries have been strongly promoted, although US and Western "unilateral sanctions have complicated the previously established interactions".

“We consider the promotion of trade and economic cooperation very important tasks. This direction is important in strengthening bilateral relations. Our embassy has helped business representatives of the two countries in fostering ties,” he said.

He added that Russian companies have continued to maintain relations with an increasing number of partners in the Kingdom.
