Concerns regarding the safety of hydraulic and other industrial equipment used in the Kingdom will be addressed, thanks to the opening of a “Special Equipment Testing Center” by Chinese company Te Zhong Shebei JianceYanjiu Yuan (Cambodia) Co., Ltd.

The centre was inaugurated on March 31, and offers modern testing facilities for elevators, pressure vessels, escalators, and heavy lifting machinery, among others. To reduce potential hazards, all of these items require regular inspections.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chea Vuthy, secretary-general of the Cambodian Investment Committee of The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) and Sat Samy, secretary of state of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, as well as other senior officials and representatives from Chinese business associations in Cambodia.

As he addressed the ceremony, Vuthy emphasised that the growth of industry and the rapid expansion of the real estate and infrastructure sectors in Cambodia have led to a sharp increase in the demand for special equipment such as elevators, escalators and lifting machinery.

Within this context, the inspection and testing of all such equipment is crucial to protecting public safety, as well as driving economic growth, he noted.

He added that the centre will play a key role in enhancing and improving industrial safety standards across the Kingdom. It will contribute significantly to long-term development and is a vital step in the country’s economic development process.

“This centre is a new achievement for Cambodia, and will become an important part of the ecosystem of the industrial, real estate and infrastructure sectors. It will ensure that heavy machinery complies with international standards and is safe,” he said.

He Jing Wei, director of the centre, described Cambodia as being in a “golden stage” of industrial development, but one which requires very specific materials and equipment.

He noted the establishment of the Special Equipment Testing Center has three main objectives: first, to standardise and ensure comprehensive quality inspections of equipment; second, to introduce the latest technologies from China to Cambodia; and third, to train human resources in safety management and the use of several types of specialised heavy machinery.

“We promise to uphold our mission of protecting the safety of Cambodia’s national industry, protecting the environment and ensuring the accuracy of measurements by adhering to the principles of quality [scientific integrity, fairness, accuracy, and efficiency] in our work,” he said.

He added that the centre will also implement projects for testing the quality of water, water sources, the environment and the precise calibration of measurement standards.
