Another one million doses of Covid-19 vaccines touched down in Phnom Penh on June 26, adding to the nine million shots the government has procured this far through either donations or purchases.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at Phnom Penh International Airport, Vongsey Visoth – secretary of state for the Ministry of Economy and Finance – said another 10 million doses are scheduled to arrive within July and August.
Visoth said the Kingdom needs 20 million doses to inoculate the targeted 10 million people aged 18 and over.
He noted that besides the one million doses that have just arrived, Cambodia will also receive one million Covid-19 rapid test kits later today.
"We plan to inoculate people with the total 20 million doses by year's end. To date, we have received 10 million doses. The other 10 million are expected to arrive by the end of August," he said.
Visoth noted that Cambodia originally planned to complete the procurement of vaccines late this year.
"Vaccines arrived ahead of schedule, so we will accelerate the campaign," he said
