The owner of Morn Dany Real Estate Company, Morn Dany, was sent to the Phnom Penh Court at 2pm on Friday, January 17, following her arrest upon returning from Thailand through the O’Smach International Border in Oddar Meanchey province. The arrest was in relation to allegations of issuing bad checks.

“The police sent her to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court at 2:00 PM after her arrest on the night of January 16 when she returned from Thailand,” said General Ngeng Chou, head of the Ministry of Interior’s Criminal Police Department.

Investigating Judge Le Sokha of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court had previously issued an arrest warrant for Dany, 39, on October 11, 2024. The warrant followed a June 28 conclusion warrant issued by the court prosecutor.

“Morn Dany was charged with failure to fulfil obligations related to negotiable instruments, an offense committed in Phnom Penh on May 13, 2013, which is punishable under Article 231 of the Law on Negotiable Instruments and Payment Transactions,” read the warrant.

Dany, born on August 13, 1985, resides in Ta In Village, Snor commune, Khan Kamboul, and in Trapang Andong Village, Trapang Krasang commune, Por Sen Chey district, Phnom Penh.

“To ensure a complete investigation, it is necessary for the suspect to appear before the investigating judge. Therefore, the authorities must transfer her to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court,” added the warrant.

Judge Le Sokha issued the arrest warrant after she failed to respond to three prior summonses issued by the court.

According to real estate and pawnshop regulators, thousands of families have suffered losses from development projects run by Morn Dany Real Estate Co., Ltd.

These include landowners who sold their property to the company and customers who made full or partial payments to purchase land, apartments and homes in boreys from her.
