An army officer has been questioned after firing four shots from a pistol while drunk at a karaoke bar in Kandal province’s Takhmao town on Sunday.
A Kandal provincial military police official said a case was being prepared to be sent to court.
Provincial military police commander Sam Tola told The Post that a 38-year-old man had admitted to discharging his firearm at the KTV B Gold karaoke bar in Takhmao town’s Kampong Samnanh commune.
The suspect, Tola said, maintained that he had only done so because he was drunk and he had not intended going on a shooting spree.
“He had been drinking with companions. The reason for him shooting his gun is not yet known. No one was injured, but damage was done to the club. One shot failed to go off. He admitted he was drunk and we will continue with legal proceedings,” Tola said.
The Kandal court prosecutor and provincial military police and their Takhmao town counterparts had questioned the suspect. They were proceeding with a case to be sent to court soon, he added.
The incident occurred at 8:30pm on Sunday at the KTV B Gold karaoke bar in Takhmao town. A man was arrested shortly after the incident, the Kandal provincial police report said.
The suspect rode a black motorbike to the karaoke bar for drinks with two friends. An argument broke out and the man went to his bike to fetch a Glock pistol.
He then walked back into the bar shouting: “Whoever thinks he is strong, come to me. I will shoot him dead.” He then discharged the firearm three times.
He fired another round, which failed to go off, outside the bar from his motorcycle while fleeing the scene.
