In the heart of Cambodia, 14 dedicated Australians are volunteering through the Australian Volunteers Programme (AVP), nurturing closer connections between peoples.

The Australian embassy in Phnom Penh confirmed on July 21 that the AVP is actively supporting Australians worldwide who wish to volunteer and make a positive impact. 

"Our brave band of 14 are currently stationed in Battambang, Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, extending their assistance to local partner organisations" it said.

Organisations benefiting from their dedication and skills include Engineers Without Borders Australia, Eye Care Foundation, Ministry of Rural Development and the National University of Battambang.

The embassy praised the AVP initiative for its pivotal role in fostering people-to-people interactions, establishing a diversely eco-friendly partnership and enhancing Australia's international development endeavours.

Recently, Australian ambassador to Cambodia Justin Wyatt warmly hosted a gathering at his residence in Phnom Penh. The aim of the get-together was to welcome these volunteers to Cambodia, provide a platform for them to discuss the progression of their projects and share their experiences. 

The meeting underscored the tangible, valuable difference they are making. Their unwavering commitment to volunteering is truly making a difference to the lives of the Cambodian people, said the embassy.
