Cambodia and China are set to sign two cooperation documents next week in the fields of telecommunications and culture, according to a press statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on June 4.

The ministry said the first document will be a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of "telecommunication and information and communication technology" between Cambodia's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The second document is the Executive Programme on Cultural Cooperation between Cambodia's Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and China's Ministry of Culture.

The signing ceremony for the two MoUs will be presided over by foreign minister Prak Sokhonn and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi following their bilateral talks on June 8 on the sidelines of the Special ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the 6th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on June 7-8 in the Chinese city of Chongqing.

Sokhonn will lead a delegation to attend the two meetings. The former is held to review the development of ASEAN-China practical cooperation in various fields and discuss the enhancement of strategic partnership in the context of Covid-19.

The latter will touch on the progress of collaboration made over the past five years and enhancement of cooperation to promote sustainable development and social and cultural interconnections in the MLC region – China and five ASEAN member states including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

For thousands of years, the 4,909km river, called the Lancang in China, has borne testimony to the thriving cultural, trade and human ties in the region.
