National Assembly (NA) president Heng Samrin and Indian Lower House speaker Om Birla committed to strengthening and bringing cooperation between the two parliaments to new heights.
The pledge came on April 22 during Birla's four-day official visit from April 21-24.
“The two leaders of parliaments were committed to working together to strengthen friendship and cooperation ... both on bilateral and multilateral frameworks,” said the NA in a press statement.
Both leaders also committed to strengthening economic, trade, tourism, and cultural cooperation.
Samrin said Birla’s visit was an honour Cambodia and would strengthen friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two countries. He also said that a regular dialogue between the leaders of the two countries would upgrade the historical relations of the two nation to another level.
“India places a high value on the relationship between the two countries. There are many development projects in Cambodia in various sectors including health, agriculture and technology, all of which provide numerous benefits to Cambodian people,” Birla was quoted as saying.
