Cambodian ambassador to South Korea Chring Botumrangsay on May 10 received a “Best Ambassador 2022” award for making“significant” contributions to Cambodia-South Korea friendship and cooperation while serving as ambassador for the past seven months.
The Cambodian embassy in Seoul said Botumrangsay had received the award from the Korea Consumer Global Council (KCGC),which connects customers and companies via consultations.
“The award was presented for her active contributions to the field of diplomacy that focused on the friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and South Korea,” the embassy said in a social media post on May 11.
Botumrangsay said she could not have done this work without the support and encouragement of the civil servants and staff at the Cambodian embassy, as well as her own family in addition to the love and compassion of the Cambodian people living and working in South Korea.
“This award provides valuable motivation and validates the efforts I made to fulfill my role and duties in order to serve the motherland and the interests of the Cambodian people,” she said in her own Facebook post on May 11. “And we really do have a lot of support from our Korean hosts.”
The ambassador said she is committed to doing her best to continue fulfilling her role and responsibilities in order to accomplish new achievements and successes that serve the interests of Cambodia and the people.
She added she is committed to boosting bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and South Korea in the fields of diplomacy, economy, trade, culture and the tourism industry.
Prior to her appointment as Cambodia’s ambassador to South Korea, Botumrangsay was secretary of state at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
She began her career in government in 2012 as a Kampot provincial coordinator for land integration and has in the past held the undersecretary of state post for both the telecoms and foreign ministries.
In an interview with The Post in September 2021 – before leaving Cambodia for her mission in South Korea – she said that in her capacity as ambassador she had every intention to strengthen the relationship and ties between Cambodia and South Korea.
KCGC co-chairwomen Yoon Jeong-yeon and Cho Eun-young said Botumrangsay has been dedicated in her efforts to promote bilateral relations between South Korea and Cambodia. They expect that she will achieve many further substantial diplomatic achievements for both countries in not only the diplomatic sphere, but also in the areas of economic and industry cooperation between Korea and Cambodia in the coming years.
“In recognition of [Botumrangsay’s] excellent diplomatic contributions towards friendship and cooperation between our two countries, the KCGC bestows the Best Ambassador 2022 Award upon Her Excellency,” they said in their official joint statement announcing the winner of the award.
In March 2021, former Cambodian ambassador to South Korea Long Dimanche received an entirely different Best Ambassador 2021 Award from the Korea Ambassador Culture Friendship Association in recognition of his continued efforts and outstanding work to strengthen economic and cultural ties between the two countries.
