The Cambodia Scouts on August 1 adopted a new five-year draft strategic plan, as the country marked World Scouts Scarf Day.
The plan will run from 2023 to 2027, and aims to promote the activities of its members that will contribute to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in the spirit of helping to build up society and the world around them.
Cambodia Scouts secretary-general Em Piseth said the five-year plan was drafted earlier this year. He said the scouts will continue their community activities – which include the Peace Messenger programme and the Green Scout programme – through environmental actions, such as the promotion of recycling and the use of renewable energy.
“The scouting movement contributes to the mental and physical development of children and youths, and advise our members to become responsible members of society,” he said.
He explained that every August 1, members of the World Scout Movement – including the Cambodia Scouts and the Girl Guides Association of Cambodia – celebrate scarf day with activities that aim to help their communities.
The distinctive scarves worn by scouts are secured by woggles. Aside from identifying a scout, they serve as a symbol of a person’s adherence to the scout promise and law. This year’s day was celebrated around the world with the theme “The Spirit of Scouting”, and reminded members that the spirit of the movement can remain with them for life.
The Cambodia Scouts operate under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and were recognised by the World Scout Movement in July, 2008.
