The Ministry of Interior's Counter-Counterfeit Committee (CCC) appealed to those who have bought alcohol from a location in Phnom Penh to immediately stop using and distributing it as it has been found to contain high level of methanol.

In an announcement dated June 25, the CCC said officers raided the location in Stung Meanchey II commune of Phnom Penh's Meanchey district earlier this month and found 74,060 litres of counterfeit alcohol mixed with dangerous level of methanol.

The CCC said the alcohol has no medical benefits and was sold without a permit from relevant authorities.

"To protect consumer health, stop its circulation and comply with legal procedures, hospitals, pharmacies, businesses and the general public that have purchased the alcohol shall send it to the interior ministry for destruction," it said.
